Job Summary

Controls Designer is responsible for providing the necessary documentation along with supporting manufacturing and testing of the controls design for a transformer based on a given set of customer requirements. Utilizing the internal specification derived from the customers’ requirements, the Control Designer creates the transformer control design for an order through the use of design standards and programs. The control design is checked, revised as necessary and released for ordering of materials and production.

Principle Duties And Responsibilities
Reviews Advance orders specifications and writes up questions to be forward to the customer.
Reviews Customers’ specifications and fills in VCE for Controls for their design.
Using the Customers specification, VCE information, and internal standards the Controls Designer creates approval drawings for the customer, shop drawings and bills of material.
Reviews and updates “AS BUILTs” drawings received from Manufacturing, and makes all updates in a timely manner. Sends note to the DE’s and the Engineering Coordinators stating the drawings are ready to print.
Troubleshoots all problems with their designs with the customer and in Operations. Keeps documentation up to date, including Cause Codes in the Nonconformance Program. Backs up other Controls Designer when they are not available.
Provides feedback weekly at Control NCR meetings to Controls Designer with respect to common errors and/or shop practices.
Tracks OCR’s for their Designs and makes corrections per schedule.
Updates TA’s to present company’s procedures and standards.
Supports projects to improve the overall design process of Controls.
Tracks all work times of designs in SAP.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to work under minimal supervision for design questions or technical problems.
Strong work ethic and a Team player.
Self-motivated
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Understanding of the function of relays, circuit breakers, PLCs, panel building and other control items.
Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
Working knowledge of CAD design tools
Understanding of shop methods, industry standards and wiring procedures

Required Education / Experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate’s Degree in Control circuits, equivalent training in the Armed Services or approved equivalent in the industry with minimum 3 years design experience. Or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology

Preferred Education / Experience
Working knowledge in designing with E3 wiring program.
