About The Role
DNV Energy Systems’ group has an exciting opportunity for a Power System Engineer (EMT Studies) in its Renewables & Power Grids service area. Our team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America. The ideal candidate will contribute in delivering technical insights and providing customers with excellent customer service.
What You’ll Do
Perform Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies such as sub synchronous resonance (SSR), control interaction (SSCI), ferro-resonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), transient recovery voltage (TRV), harmonic, energization etc.Develop/tune PSCAD models, perform PSCAD/PSSE model benchmarking analysisProduce and/or review technical reports and presentations for external CustomersTimely completion of projects assigned while meeting project quality and project budgetStay up to date with relevant industry standards such as IEEE, NERC, CIGREDevelop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulationsContribute to the team’s research and innovative activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to enhance team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvementsCultivate customer relationships, technical advisory support for generations, and large load interconnections connecting to transmission system
This role is based at our DNV office in Dallas (TX), Austin (TX), Houston (TX), Oak Brook (IL), Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Medford (MA), presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.
The position may also be considered at other DNV offices within US.

For California, Washington, New York, Washington, D.C., Illinois, and Maryland: “DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. For the states of California, Washington, New York, Washington, D.C., Illinois, and Maryland only, the starting pay range for this role is $80,000 – $135,000.”

About You
What is Required
Master’s degree in electrical engineering with emphasis in Power System and ControlHands-on experience with PSCAD softwareKnowledge of inverter-based resources (Wind, Solar, Battery Storage) and associated controlIn-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy, small-signal and large-signal control stabilityStrong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem solving and analytical skillsAbility to work in a dynamic team environmentExcellent oral and written communications skills in EnglishWe conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
What Is Preferred
Active PE LicenseDoctorate degree with emphasis on Electric Power SystemsHands on experience performing EMT, SSR studiesExperience in scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automation and data analysisDemonstrable hands-on experience with one or more power system analysis software packages including PSS/E, DigSilent Power Factory, TSAT, TARA, ASPENKnowledge of ERCOT Electricity Market planning & interconnection practicesKnowledge of other Electricity Markets (such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE) planning & interconnection practices
