You as R&D Principle Engineer will be part of Hitachi ABB Power Grids business-based Chennai. You will be expected to work in area of Power Electronics to join our team of specialists in developing system, control and protection concepts for new charging solutions in the field of e-Mobility and Power Conversion Solutions such as eBus flash-charging, large EV depots terminals, Static Frequency Converter and Solid State Transformer solutions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Performance benchmarking of convertor designs (design concepts vs. performance, losses and costs)
  • Improving the efficiency, performance, and modularity of existing solutions
  • Developing simulation model including converter control system to analyze dynamic performance of converters for various operating conditions for Low and medium power convertors including protection concepts
  • Contributing to R&D projects from the initial concept stage to final product rollout
  • Developing system simulations for grid code compliance (THDi, THDu, power factor, DC ripple etc.)
  • Experience in System design, SLD & MLD (single- and multi-lines diagrams), BOM (bill of materials)
  • Writing tutorial, guidelines, test procedures, report templates for engineering and commissioning engineers
  • Writing technical specifications for internal and external suppliers, Benchmark and cost evaluation
  • Auditing assessment of external partners, including power electronic converter part
  • Lab testing (heat-run, EMC, noise, electrical endurance), official type tests certification, factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, commissioning, end-user training at a domestic and international level
  • Supporting customer project tendering and execution activities

Your background

  • Masters Degree or Ph.D in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Electronics and Control
  • Industrial experience with low voltage power converters is an advantage
  • Proficiency in the use of simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or PSCAD
  • Experience with low voltage and medium voltage network distribution would be an advantage
  • Experience with DC network & Energy Storage Systems (battery, supercaps, BMS) would be an advantage
  • Experience in eRoom, outdoor panel, cooling design, and noise attenuation would be an advantage
  • Team spirit with the capacity to work independently,complemented by a quick intellect and well-developed analytical skills
  • Proficiency in English, speaking and writing
