Primary Objective of Position
Develops and designs products and manufacturing equipment and processes based on the product marketing specifications and leads project teams through the completion of the project. Visits key accounts for the purpose of building positive business relationships, resulting in design wins and the purchase of Signal products.
Technical Job Functions
Confers with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, legal and other departments and personnel to clarify or resolve problems, develop designs, develop manufacturing processes, and facilitate improvements to existing designs and provide technical assistance.
Organizes project team meetings and acts as the project leader through the development process for assigned key accounts and as backup for other engineers as needed.
Prepares or directs preparation of product design or system layout and detailed drawings.
Works with manufacturing on building of prototype product or systems.
Plans and develops experimental test programs for designs and/or prototypes.
Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications before and after prototype production.
Confers with project team and other personnel to prepare design modifications as required.
Is the main engineering contact for specified Key Accounts who coordinates with Signal Engineering, Sales, Customer Service, and R&D teams for all designs related to those specified Key Accounts.
Must travel to assigned key accounts 1-2 times annually and have a willingness to travel to global manufacturing or operations locations annually.
Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks. Prepares or directs drafters in the preparation of detailed drawings in regards to product, system, and/or layout.
If requested by management, manages and controls ISO documentation, ECN’s, Drawings, Control Plans, etc.
Additional duties that may be assigned.
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in an engineering discipline from four-year college or university or a minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in the understanding of design requirements and applying requirements to design applications.
Bi-lingual in Spanish and/or Mandarin a plus.
Excellent oral, presentation, and written communication skills are required.
Proficient in MS Office: Power Point, Excel, Word, Outlook, 2D and 3D drawing programs.
Ability to follow Company policies and procedures in compliance with Signal’s branding standards.
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately both orally and written. Including write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general-public.
Ability to communicate work goals, progress and changes as required.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Establish objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities.
Maintain appropriate communication within area of responsibility; keep associates informed as to Company/department’s plans and progress.
Identify training needs; initiate development of internal and external customers.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with assigned team and with all applicable departments, customers and vendors.
Ability to work within a flexible organization structure, taking feedback within a dual reporting relationship.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Provides direction to Designers, Drafters, Machinists, and Operators as required.
Expected to travel 10-20% of the time both domestically and internationally to visit key customers and manufacturing locations.
