TCA I course – e-lesson#1: Reviewing transformer data and background
Event Details:
On March 3rd, we are opening a new course at Transformer Academy: Transformer Condition Assessment I. The author of this course is Marcos Ferreira.
The first lesson,Reviewing Transformer Data and Background, sets the essential groundwork for any credible condition assessment.
This session focuses on how transformer history, operational data, and maintenance records directly influence assessment quality and confidence.
Participants will learn which data must be reviewed before analysis begins, how past maintenance actions and incidents affect interpretation, why missing or inconsistent records weaken conclusions, and how Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) differ from commissioning and field tests.
The lesson also explains why documented manufacturing issues should be considered when identifying potential failure modes.
This is a foundational lesson for engineers, asset managers, and technical professionals involved in transformer condition assessment and risk-based decision-making.
Foscus: Establishing the foundation for condition assessment
1. Understand which technical, operational, and historical data are essential before starting any condition assessment
2. Learn how maintenance records, and past incidents influence assessment reliability
3. Identify missing or inconsistent data and understand their impact on assessment confidence
4. Understand and the importance of FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) compared to Commissioning (Field Tests)
5. Review any records of manufacturing issue to become part of failure mode
