LIVE LESSON IS SCHEDULED FOR 6TH FEBRUARY AT 2 PM CET.

This lesson provides an overview of the oxidation of transformer insulating oil, including the mechanisms, consequences, and mitigation strategies. It explains how oxidation leads to the formation of acids and water, which can degrade the paper insulation and cause sludge buildup. The presentation discusses the various factors that contribute to oxidation in a transformer, such as temperature, oxygen, and the presence of copper. It highlights the importance of using oxidation inhibitors to extend the oil’s lifespan and the differences in performance between inhibited and uninhibited oils. The lesson also covers standard test methods for measuring oil oxidation and the corrective actions, including reconditioning and reclamation, that can be taken to address poor oil quality. Finally, it presents preventive measures, such as the use of adsorption cartridges, to slow down the aging of transformer oil.

The lesson is conducted on the Mater’s level and after the live broadcasting, it stays available on demand. It is intended for utility engineers/chemists, transformer and oil manufacturers, students and faculty of educational institutes, oil testing laboratories, utility staff, etc.

This session is related to the mechanisms in a transformer, consequences of ageing of oil and corrective actions.

The content of this lesson is fully vendor-agnostic, but it is free of charge for the attendees because it is sponsored by Ergon.
