In the electrical network system, transformer is considered as one of the key equipment. Due to its vital importance in the grid, ensuring its stability and operability in all environmental conditions has become a hot issue in transformer design, especially if we consider large-scale earthquakes that have become more frequent around the world – some recent examples being Haiti in 2010, East Japan in 2011 and Kyong-ju in Korea in 2016. In view of this, LSIS has launched a new cast-resin transformer that is capable of withstanding an earthquake with a magnitude of up to 8.0 on the Richter scale.

To keep the equipment functional in severe seismic conditions, it is necessary to add supporting structure, which can be quite costly. However, LSIS has developed a new cast-resin transformer boasting a simple and uncostly supporting structure. The new transformer, named “Susol”, was developed using a response spectrum analysis method. With this simple supporting structure swing displacement can be drastically reduced, resulting in lower mechanical impact on the transformer body and an uninterrupted operation of the transformer under a severe earthquake.
