Transformers are an important component of the electricity sector, responsible for the transformation and distribution of electrical energy. Based on the life cycle assessment, this article evaluates the environmental impacts of a dry-type distribution transformer from the raw material acquisition to the end-of-life stages. The results show that the operation phase dominates in all environmental impact categories. In order to reduce the environmental impacts, it is suggested that the design of the transformers should be improved, renewable energy sources should be utilized during the manufacturing and operation stages, and the rate of the use of recycled components should be increased.
