Transformer fire left thousands without power on New Year’s Eve

France, Rhone: The ERDF transformer at Dardilly substation caught fire on New Year’s Eve leaving 14,000 electricity customers without power in Dardilly, Ecully, Champagne, Limones and a few more minicipalities near Lyon in the Rhone-Alpes region of France.

After a two-hour firefighters intervention, the technicians were able to access the equipment and try to identify the cause of the fire, reports Le Progres.

Power outage affected private and business customers alike, forcing many shops and restaurants to close and creating problems on the roads as the traffic lights were darkened.
