India, Noida: The Noida Authority approved  Rs 33 crore ($ 5.3 million) worth of work related to improving transformer capacity of the Pali substation which supplies Noida and Greater Noida with electricity.

The upgrade project has been undertaken by UP Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL) which will use the fund to install a 500 MVA transformer at the substation.

According to the UPPTCL officials,  ‘deposit work’ will be utilised to install the 500 MVA transformer which will upgrade the 400 kV capacity of the substation. The upgrade should be completed by the summer this year in order to improve the power supply to Noida and Greater Noida as soon as possible. The installation of the transformer will take between 100 and 120 days.

The Pali substation, which is the only nodal point for electricity influx to Gautam Budh Nagar district, operates with three 315 MVA transformers. With low capacity of the station, long outages have become regular during high demand periods. The substation capacity will increase from 945 MVA to 1,445 MVA after completion of the upgrade.

Superintending engineer of UPPTCL, AP Singh, said “Timely release of the funds would ensure that the work is completed within the target period”,  stressing the importance of receiving the funds from the Noida Authority.
