Zest Energy provides mobile substation for Congo copper project

Congo: South Africa’s Zest Energy, part of the Zest WEG Group, has supplied and commissioned a mobile substation at the Kamoa-Kakula copper project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, to provide power during the construction phase of the project.

The 120/11 kV mobile substation will serve the construction of the initial planned mine at Kamoa-Kakula, where the existing mineral resource has been independently verified as Africa’s largest copper find, reports Mining Review.

Zest Energy undertook the design, manufacture, supply, testing, delivery, installation and commissioning of the complete mobile substation, including the power transformer and related electrical equipment.

The manufacturer worked with the WEG Transmission and Distribution unit in Brazil on transformer design, manufacturing and factory testing, and also involved WEG Transformers Africa to assist with site assembly and testing of the mobile transformer.
