Eskom delivers five mobile transformers
South Africa, Johannesburg: Following a rigorous procurement procedure, five mobile transformers have been successfully delivered to Eskom’s Mkondeni unit in KwaZulu-Natal last month, after almost six years.
The plan to purchase the five 132/88-22/11 kV mobile transformers started in 2011 and following the procurement process, Siemens was awarded the contract to manufacture the units, the utility company stated in a press release.
All the five mobile transformers were delivered by March 2017.
According to Eskom, mobile transformers will be used to provide the capabilities to quickly restore electricity following an outage caused by a storm or any other disaster, to help provide temporary service while permanent facilities are being constructed, and they can also replace existing equipment during scheduled maintenance.
