500 MVA transformer damaged after two months in service
India, Chandigarh: A 500 MVA power transformer got damaged last week at Punjab State Transmission Company (PSTCL’s) 400 KV Rajpura substation after only two months in service.
The 500 MVA transformer, which was supplying power mainly to Derabassi and Banur areas, was commissioned two months ago. The second 500 MVA transformer is currently under commissioning at the substation, reports Punjab News Express.
The Rajpura transformer appears to have failed just at the start of paddy season which indicates that there was some serious manufacturing defect.
The transmission company operating the transformer will seek explanation from the manufacturer due to poor performance of the transformers supplied to Punjab.
