180-tonne transformer delivered to Galloper onshore substation

United Kingdom, Suffolk: A 180-tonne power transformer successfully reached its destination at the Galloper onshore substation, a project related to the development of Galloper Offshore Wind Farm and an extension of the fully operational Greater Gabbard Wind Farm off the coast of Suffolk.

The super grid transformer manufactured in South Korea measured 8.7 m in length, 4.9 m in width and 4.7 m in height, the transport company said in a press release.

On a 43-kilometre journey from the portside to delivery site, the transformer was loaded to a specialist girder bridge and the entire combination featured 20 axles, two tractor units in push pull formation and an overall length of 70.5 metres.
