World’s first phase-shifting transformer with ester insulation liquid
Siemens has introduced eco-friendly phase-shifting transformer technology using alternative insulation liquids to enable safe and reliable grid operation, especially important in densely populated metropolitan areas.
The manufacturer has received the order for the world’s first phase shifter that is filled with ester oil instead of mineral oil, according to the company press release.
The 138/138-kV phase shifter now being manufactured will be installed in a metropolitan area on the East Coast of the US to help the local utility control the power flow and adjust to changes in the power demand in the system.
The 60 Hz 300 MVA unit will be delivered in autumn this year, and can be installed in very short time as it uses plug-in bushings.
