Fire destroys 150 MVA transformer at Jos transmission station

Nigeria, Jos: After a fire completely destroyed a 150 MVA 330 kV power transformer at TCN’s Jos transmission station, the company was forced to divert about 30 MW of electricity supply to its Gombe substation.

According to TCN’s statement, the fire started on the secondary side of the transformer’s blue phase bushing, when a conductor snapped and caused oil to gush out of the bushing, reports All Africa.

This oil ignited fire which engulfed the power transformer. The fire was successfully isolated and it did not affect the second power transformer in the substation.

The company is working to replace the burnt transformer.
