Mozambique to receive $150M to bolster its power system

The World Bank has approved an International Development Association (IDA) $150 million grant to bolster Mozambique’s energy sector, reports ESI-Africa.

This grant is aimed to assist Mozambique’s electricity utility company EDM to improve the operational capacity of its electricity network as well as its operational efficiencies.

The funding will help the utility to rehabilitate and upgrade the network infrastructure through the installation of additional transformers to increase capacity, reinforcement of transmission and distribution lines, and installation of  reactive compensation equipment in the cities of Maputo, Matola, Nacala, Pemba, and Lichinga.
