U.S. utility to install Siemens grid stability technology

Siemens is providing its first Mobile SVC STATCOM technology to a U.S. energy provider Dominion Energy.

This solution keeps the grid stable during disturbances and faults by providing fast and controlled reactive power, and can be located anywhere in order to rapidly restore power grids, according to the company press release.

The flexibility to move the device within days wherever grid support is needed, especially in cases of unexpected outages, will also help the utility manage the growing number of renewable and distributed energy resources on its power grid.

Siemens expects to deliver the first mobile STATCOM device in mid-2018.
