TCN seeks $200M loan for transmission projects in northeast
Nigeria: The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is requesting a $200 million loan from the African Development Bank (AFDB) to boost electricity supply in the northeast of the country.
The funds are needed to finance the Northeast Transmission Expansion Project created to address the challenges in the region, which only has two functional 330 kV substations, reports The Guardian.
According to the TCN managing director, some places in the region are more than 1,000 kilometres away from the nearest electricity generation station, and they are being served on a low voltage distribution line of 33 kV or 11 kV.
Improved electricity supply would also boost economic activities in the region.
