Ethiopia granted $101.5M funding for power systems upgrade

Executive Directors of the African Development Bank Group have approved a loan and a grant amounting to $101.46 million for the rehabilitation and upgrading of power transmission and distribution systems in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.

The project involves replacement and installation of 582 distribution transformers and 14 primary substations, rehabilitation and construction of 545 km of medium voltage lines, upgrading nine existing high voltage substations and construction of one 132 kV overhead line, reports Modern Ghana.

The project is to be completed in three years, and will support Ethiopia government’s efforts to meet growing demand for electricity in the capital city and the surrounding areas, and replace obsolete equipment to reduce energy losses and overloads.
