Nigeria, Kogi State, Ejule: The Ejule community in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State erupted in celebration as a long-awaited 500 kVA transformer, distributed under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s rural electrification initiative, finally arrived.
The project, which aims to enhance electricity supply and boost economic activities across Kogi State, includes the distribution and installation of 30 new 500 kVA transformers across the three senatorial districts. The initiative seeks to improve living conditions and promote grassroots development.
For Ejule residents, the transformer’s arrival marked the end of years of blackouts. Streets filled with dancing and songs of gratitude as community members hailed the governor and his deputy, Joel Salifu. “Today, some parts of Ejule breathe again. The light has returned, and so has hope,” said His Royal Highness Alhaji Adejoh Abdullahi Amanabo, the Onuh Ejule.
Women and youth shared similar sentiments, expressing relief and optimism. “For three years, we lived in darkness. Our children could not study at night, and our small businesses suffered. Today, light has come back, and our hearts are full of gratitude,” said women’s leader Mallama Ayiba Audu.
Community leaders, including Chief Imam Dr Abubakar Ejiga and several local representatives, praised the government for fulfilling its promise and pledged continued support.
The two 500 kVA transformers allocated to Ejule are part of a broader effort to “light up” Kogi’s rural communities and restore essential services. Governor Ododo’s administration says the initiative will continue expanding to other neglected areas, ensuring reliable power access and revitalised local economies across the state.
