Energex buys land for 11 new substations in Sunshine Coast

Australia, Queensland: South East Queensland’s electricity distributor Energex has announced plans for a new substation or depot in a busy Sunshine Coast suburb, one of 11 new facilities the utility is planning to build in the future.

The electricity distributor has gained Sunshine Coast Council approval to build a facility beside a bushland reserve at Caloundra West, reports Sunshine Coast Daily.

This is one of 11 Coast sites the utility has bought for future electricity substations.

Energex spokesman Danny Donald said the approval had been sought to get in before any further residential or business expansion in the area.

“We purchase well in advance because it is really hard to buy land once it has been developed around it,” Mr Donald said.

Energex also owns land at Bowman Road in Caloundra for the future extension of an existing substation.
