650-ton transformer to be transported in Maryland
USA, Maryland: A 650-ton transformer headed for Wildcat Point Generating Station in Cecil County, Maryland will cause detours as it makes its way across the western part of the county starting next week.
The transformer is being shipped from Norfolk, Virginia to Port Deposit on a barge and will arrive at Tome’s Landing Marina on Tuesday, 26 February, reports Cecil Daily.
The 91-metre long, 6-metre high transformer will move from Tome’s Landing Marina to the Bainbridge property, from where it will get moved to a larger trailer for the next phase.
The move will not be without its challenges. Three streams will need to be steel plated on Route 276 in Maryland and three intersections will have to have the traffic lights removed for the load to get through.
The load will travel down Route 472 through Pennsylvania and circle back into Conowingo on the way to its final destination.
