Ethiopia needs $1.5B investment in electrification projects

Ethiopia will need an estimated investment of $1.5 billion over the next five years to support the implementation of its National Electrification Programme (NEP), launched in November 2017 with support from the World Bank.

The Ethiopia Electrification Programme was approved last week and it will directly support the NEP, whose goal is to provide one million last-mile household connections, achieving universal electricity access by 2025.

The World Bank has sanctioned a $375 million International Development Association credit to support this goal.
