MR expands retrofit solutions for aging power transformers in Japan

Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen (MR) has expanded its retrofit solutions for life-time extension and maintenance-cost reduction for aging power transformers in Japan.

New retrofit solutions enable a large regulated power transformer to use a maintenance-free vacuum type on-load tap-changer (OLTC) rather than an oil-immersed OLTC, reducing the maintenance costs for this transformer component to zero, according to MR.

To meet high demands from Japanese electric power companies, new VACUTAP® VR® DSI can now also be retrofitted to OILTAP® T OLTCs with oil compartments made from laminated paper.

The company has successfully completed the necessary type tests in accordance with the relevant standard JEC 2220.
