Egypt inaugurates first HV transformer factory in Middle East

Egypt’s Electricity Minister, Mohamed Shaker, and Governor of Suez, Ahmed Hamed, inaugurated the first high-voltage transformers factory in Egypt and the Middle East in Ain Sokhna.

The plant is the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa capable of producing 66 kV, 220 kV and 500 kV power transformers and transformer equipment up to 500 kV, as well as GIS substations 500/220/66 kV and other equipment for transformer stations such as capacitors and lightning arresters, reports Egypt Independent.

According to Shaker, this ambitious program was adopted by his ministry in order to support local manufacturing of electric power equipment and be able to provide all required services locally.
