Siemens delivers transformer for world’s largest battery storage installation

Southern Australia: Siemens has supplied a generator step-up (GSU) transformer for the Hornsdale power reserve, a grid-scale battery storage solution for the new wind farm in Hornsdale.

The 275 kV, 120 MVA GSU transformer has been installed at the local substation to help feed the power generated at the new Hornsdale wind farm to the transmission grid when it is needed.

Hornsdale power reserve is the world’s largest lithium-ion battery installation which is able to store and dispatch clean energy to the grid 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
