Transformer fire reignites at Texas City substation
USA, Texas: A mineral oil fire prompted by a transformer explosion at the CenterPoint Energy substation in Texas City reignited yesterday morning, the day after a huge transformer fire was battled.
Tuesday’s fire prompted road closures and power outages before the situation was brought under control. However, on Wednesday morning the fire has reignited, reports Chron.
According to a spokeswoman for the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality, Wednesday’s blaze started due to the high temperature of a transformer that had exploded and caught fire the previous day.
Fire crews from Texas City and San Leon responded and put out the fire. Firefighters are staying at the substation in an attempt to keep the transformer cooled and prevent any further fires from igniting.
