Xcel Energy implementing $3B transmission grid expansion
USA, Texas: Xcel Energy is implementing a number of electricity transmission projects within its larger “Power for the Plains” effort, a $3 billion investment program aimed at expanding the company’s power transmission network in Texas and New Mexico by 2021.
Within the “Power for the Plains” project, the company plans to build and upgrade more than 27 substations by 2021, along with the construction of 1,126 km of additional transmission lines, reports My High Plains.
The company has already invested in more than 30 new substations within the program, along with upgrades to another 40 existing substations.
Recently, the company has completed the Northeast Hereford-La Plata project, a new high-voltage transmission line and a substation built in Hereford, Texas, at $14 million.
