Liberian utility starts Virginia substation project

Liberia: Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has started construction of the Virginia substation outside Monrovia, under the Liberia Accelerated Electricity Expansion Project (LAEEP).

The funding for the LAEEP project has been provided by the World Bank and is intended for the construction of four substations – in Virginia, Gardnersville, Stockton Creek and Kle, in Bomi County, reports Liberian Observer.

According to LEC, about 33,000 people in thirty-seven communities are expected to be connected through this project, scheduled for completion in 18 months.

The project’s objectives are to increase access to electricity and strengthen institutional capacity in the energy sector.
