Kenya: The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) has embarked on a 263-km transmission project in Marsabit County, which is part of the Eastern Electricity Highway Project, an HVDC transmission link connecting Ethiopia and Kenya.
The 641-km 500 kV HVDC Ethiopia-Kenya Power Interconnector runs from Woloyta/Sodo in Ethiopia to Suswa substation in Kenya and includes construction of a new converter station, which will be supplied by Siemens, reports Compelo.
Other contractors in the project are Indian companies KEC International, Larsen & Toubro, and Kalpataru Power Transmission.
The project valued at $421 million is scheduled for completion in June 2019.
