Blown transformer knocks out power in downtown Philadelphia

A blown transformer caused a power outage near Philadelphia’s City Hall Thursday morning, leaving part of the area in the dark for several hours.

According to officials, an underground transformer malfunctioned, and power went out on the east side of City Hall, though the building’s tower was still lit.

Traffic lights and lights poles were among the structures that lost power when the transformer blew shortly before midnight.
