HIMOINSA develops transformer substations in containers
HIMOINSA has built voltage transformer substations in 3-metre (10-feet) and 6-metre (20-feet) containers, making transformation possible by increasing the voltage of four generator sets connected in parallel in the same station.
These substations make it possible to transform 6.3 MVA and 3.15 MVA depending on whether a 3-metre or 6-metre container is used, the manufacturer said in the press statement.
Each 6-metre container is fitted with two 3,150 kVA transformers while the 3-metre container features a single transformer. They also incorporate a digitally-controlled transformer protection relay able to detect the oil pressure and ensure safety of the transformer and any equipment that is attached to it, according to the manufacturer.
Two such transformer substations housed in a 6-metre container are already installed at Sibanye Gold Mine, where the general grid cannot cope with the peaks of demand of the heavy machinery used in such projects.
