Rwanda’s utility inaugurates two substations
Last week The Rwanda Energy Group (REG) completed the upgrades and rehabilitation of two substations with the support of the African Development Fund.
The loan that was approved in 2015 was used to upgrade Rulindo substation with two stronger power transformers of 10 MVA, and to rehabilitate Gifurwe substation, with an aim to strengthen the transmission and distribution network in the Northern Province, reports ESI-Africa.
Gifurwe substation had to be rehabilitated as the substation’s transformer had been destroyed in 1994 and all outgoing feeders were connected to one switch. After rehabilitation, a new 10 MVA transformer was installed.
The CEO of REG, Ron Weiss, said the project has significantly improved reliability and quality of power supply in the Northern Province.
