Most damaging storm in BC Hydro’s history hits 230 transformers
Canada, Vancouver: BC Hydro has released a report finding that the windstorm of December 20, 2018 which hit the South Coast impacted more customers, caused more damage and required the largest mobilization of resources than any previous storm in its history.
According to the report, the December 20 windstorm, which left more than 750,000 customers without power, damaged 230 transformers, and it took more than 900 field personnel and 11 days to restore power to all customers that were impacted, the company said in the press release.
The December 20 windstorm impacted more than 400,000 customers in the Lower Mainland, and nearly 350,000 or about 80 percent of all customers on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
