Power problems and outages reported in Bethlehem
As reported by the emergency radio broadcasts around 7 a.m., two transformers exploded in Bethlehem and a transformer fire was caused in Bethlehem Township, Pa. According to PPL Electric Utilities, nearly 2,000 customers lost power supply.
Emergency dispatches stated that a caller reported transformers popping and power loss near Rogers and Lewis streets behind the Wawa on Easton Avenue in the city.
The authorities were also informed about sparking wires at Ninth Street and Freemansburg Avenue in the township.
At around 7:20, PPL Electric Utilities reported that more than 1,500 Lower Saucon Township customers were without power, as well as 1,999 customers in Bethlehem.
Power supply was restored to most customers by 11:30 a.m. when there were reportedly only 50 customers without power supply.
