Peru: Spanish infrastructure firm Acciona has secured a contract to design, finance, construct, and operate a 330 km power transmission line in southern Peru. The $284 M (€250 M) project also includes the operation and maintenance of the system for 30 years under a concession agreement.
Set to be operational by 2028, the 220 kV transmission line will significantly enhance electricity distribution in the region, fully meeting the power demands of Cusco, which is currently only partially supplied. The project includes building two new substations – Quencoro Nueva and Onocora – and expanding three others: Suriray, Quencoro, and Tintaya Nueva.
Acciona stated that the new infrastructure will alleviate current grid congestion and reduce overload issues across the southeast of Peru’s National Interconnected Electrical System. The upgraded and newly constructed substations are also designed to facilitate future connections to renewable energy generation plants, supporting the country’s broader clean energy goals.
The project represents a strategic investment in Peru’s power sector, strengthening the reliability and resilience of its transmission network while promoting long-term energy sustainability.
