CG plans greenfield transformer facility
CG Power & Industrial Solutions Ltd (CG) has planned a major expansion in its manufacturing capacity, with the company investing in a greenfield transformer plant.

India, Mumbai: CG Power & Industrial Solutions Ltd (CG) has planned a major expansion in its manufacturing capacity for transformers. The company’s board has approved an investment of INR 712 crore ($82.3 million) in setting up a greenfield transformer manufacturing plant.
Land identification for the plant is still in progress. The plant will have the capacity to manufacture 45000 MVA worth of transformers annually and is expected to commission during by March 31, 2028.
The expansion will take CG’s overall annual manufacturing capacity of power transformers to 85000 MVA. T&D India reports that the company will be manufacturing transformers in the voltage class 220 kV to 765 kV at the site, catering to domestic and international markets. Its current transformer capacity is on course to reach 40000 MVA per year.
In October 2023, the board approved manufacturing capacity expansion at the company’s Malanpur unit in Madhya Pradesh from the then-existing 25000 MVA to 35000 MVA, with this expansion expected to be completed by March 2025. A further capacity expansion to 40,000 MVA was approved in October 2024.
CG is also expected to commission capacity expansion of distribution transformers over the next 2-3 months. According to T&D India, it is in the process of expanding the distribution transformer manufacturing capacity at its Bhopal plant in Madhya Pradesh from 6900 MVA to 9900 MVA per year.
