Romania, Bucharest: Romanian electricity and natural gas distributor Delgaz Grid, a subsidiary of German utility E.ON, has started modernisation works at the Iași Sud substation, the largest that the company operates. The cost of the project is over 73.3 million lei ($16.1 million), of which 56.7 million lei is covered by European funding received through the Modernisation Fund.

The main works involve renewing most of the equipment, including three transformers and installing solar panels with a total capacity of 67 kW on the rooftops of the station’s buildings, which will generate about 80 MWh of electricity for the utility’s consumption. Delgaz Grid operates an 81500 km electricity grid in six counties in northeastern Romania. It is currently implementing investment projects in the electricity distribution network worth a total of 1.8 billion lei, of which 1.4 billion lei represents co-financing received through the Modernisation Fund, which is funded by revenues from the auction of emission allowances from the EU’s Emissions Trading System, and assists ten EU countries with lower incomes in their transition to climate neutrality.
