SSE Renewables has warned further delays to turbine installation at the 1.2 GW Dogger Bank A wind farm off east England may push back full operations to 2025.

UK, Scotland: SSE Renewables said in an update that poor weather, supply chain issues and the availability of vessels had slowed down progress at Dogger Bank A construction site in the North Sea, which had been expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

A total of 95 GE Haliade-X turbines are supposed to be in place by the second quarter of the year. However, only seven have been completed since the works started in July of 2023. This latest warning marks a departure from the original timeline set by the project partners (including Equinor and Vargronn).

SSE announced that any slippage into 2025 is unlikely to “materially change” financial returns from the AR3 project. It also said that it is working with supply chain partners to improve turbine installation rates. A further update should be provided in May, once FY24 results are published.
