The Netherlands: In a groundbreaking project at a data center in the Netherlands, TMC Transformers has successfully designed, manufactured, and installed dry-type transformers in a large intake substation. David Claassen, Managing Director of Trafo Power Solutions, who played a key role from the project’s inception, highlights the significance of this innovation.

The project involved the supply of three 22.5 MVA dry-type transformers, each operating at a voltage level of 50 kV, stepping down to 13.8 kV. This marks the largest dry-type transformer produced by TMC yet, pushing the boundaries of their application, typically used in lower power settings.

Unlike traditional transformers used in larger substations, dry-type transformers offer reliability and minimal maintenance, making them ideal for mission-critical data centers where uptime is essential. However, their large-scale application required innovative cooling solutions, as dry-type transformers are more often used indoors in smaller settings.

Claassen praises the strong collaboration between TMC Transformers and Trafo Power Solutions, stating that this flagship project is a testament to their ability to scale dry-type technology for high-power, high-voltage projects.

The successful installation underscores the growing potential of dry-type transformers in industrial applications, especially in sectors like data centers.
