USA, North Carolina: Duke Energy has announced a major initiative to rebuild its three of its substations affected by Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina, focusing on climate resilience. The project comes in response to the increasing frequency of extreme weather events and the need for modernized energy infrastructure.

The substations are located in Biltmore Village, Hot Springs, and Swannanoa, and sustained severe flooding which left thousands without power. Currently, power is flowing through mobile units. To pay for the rebuilding projects and other Helene-related damage, the utility will ask the North Carolina Utilities Commission to approve a storm bond worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
