Egypt: Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, conducted a field visit to the Beni Suef Combined Cycle Power Plant to review operational performance, fuel consumption and preparedness ahead of the summer demand peak.
With a total capacity of 4,800 MW, the plant represents approximately 15 % of the country’s installed electricity capacity. Developed at a cost of $2.38 B, the facility operates using advanced H‑class combined cycle technology, ranking among the most fuel-efficient plants on Egypt’s unified grid, with an average fuel consumption of 149 grams per kW/h.
During the visit, Esmat was briefed on electricity output, fuel usage, maintenance schedules and the impact of a newly implemented operating model designed to enhance efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. He toured the generation units and main control room, discussing load management, operational efficiency and responsiveness to the national grid with engineers and operators.
The minister emphasised completing scheduled maintenance ahead of peak periods, maximising fuel efficiency, and maintaining strict safety and occupational health standards. He also highlighted the importance of workforce training, cross-department coordination, and proactive maintenance practices to prevent unexpected outages.
This inspection is part of ongoing efforts to ensure stable and efficient operation of Egypt’s electricity network, improve service quality and advance the country’s broader strategy for sustainable, cost-effective energy production.
