France: Eiffage, through its subsidiary Smulders, has won a contract exceeding $1.7 B (€1.5 B) from France’s transmission system operator to design, build, and commission three offshore substations. The units will serve the Bretagne Sud, Narbonnaise Sud-Hérault, and Golfe de Fos wind farms.
The project includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of jacket foundations and topsides housing electrical equipment. Each substation will have a capacity of 750 MW, enabling the integration of more than 2 GW of renewable electricity into France’s grid.
The jackets for Bretagne Sud will stand 115 m tall, 25 m wide, and 35 m long. For Narbonnaise Sud-Hérault and Fos, the jackets will be about 110 m high, 45 m wide, and 50 m long. The topsides will weigh roughly 5,000 t and measure over 20 m in height, 35 m in width, and 70 m in length.
Manufacturing will take place across Smulders’ facilities and partner factories in France and Europe. The jackets will be assembled at Eiffage Métal’s site in Fos-sur-Mer, France, while the topsides will be assembled in Vlissingen, Netherlands.
The contract reinforces Eiffage’s position in Europe’s offshore wind supply chain, supporting France’s ambitions to expand renewable capacity. It also comes as new tenders, including floating wind sites under the AO6 and AO9 rounds, continue to shape the country’s offshore energy landscape.
