Texas, San Antonio: Canadian developer Enbridge has announced a $900 M investment in the Clear Fork solar project, a 600 MW facility under construction near San Antonio. The project is expected to begin operating in the summer of 2027.

Meta has signed a long-term agreement to purchase 100 % of the electricity generated, part of its strategy to power an expanding portfolio of data centres with renewable energy. The company says it now has more than 6.7 GW of renewable energy online in the US and 11.7 GW contracted globally.

Enbridge said Clear Fork is expected to be accretive to cash flow and earnings per share from 2027. The developer has several other large projects underway, including the 815 MW Sequoia Solar project in Texas, the 577 MW Fox Squirrel Solar project in Ohio, and a 771 MW facility in Wyoming.

Texas remains the country’s leading state for utility-scale solar capacity, employing more than 12,000 people in the sector. Industry groups say demand is being driven by corporate buyers such as Meta and Amazon, who are seeking long-term renewable contracts to support operations and sustainability goals.

With new projects like Clear Fork, Texas is set to strengthen its position as a centre of large-scale solar development in the United States.
