USA, Texas: Constellation has announced a new agreement between its Calpine business unit and Dallas-based data centre operator CyrusOne to support the development of a major new data centre facility in Texas.

Under the deal, Calpine will provide 380 MW of power, grid access and site infrastructure for a new data centre located next to the Freestone Energy Center in Freestone County, around 130 km (80 mi) south-east of Dallas. The arrangement allows CyrusOne to move forward with development while ensuring electricity supply to the wider regional grid remains reliable.

In addition, Calpine has signed an exclusive agreement to support a second phase at the site, adding a further 380 MW. These new agreements build on the 400 MW of capacity already contracted between Calpine and CyrusOne last year for the Thad Hill Energy Center in Bosque County, Texas. Altogether, more than 1,100 MW is now under contract to support CyrusOne’s Texas data centre operations.

Constellation President and CEO Joe Dominguez said the agreement shows the company’s ability to meet rising demand from the digital economy while supporting grid reliability, job creation and local communities. By using existing infrastructure and grid connections, Constellation aims to help large customers move quickly without compromising reliability for Texans.

The project will use Constellation’s Powered Land Capabilities, which combine generation, land and grid access to support large-scale power users with speed and predictability.

CyrusOne CEO Eric Schwartz said the partnership strengthens the company’s ability to meet customer demand in Texas while delivering dependable, scalable infrastructure for the long term.
