Ethiopia, Addis Ababa: Ethiopia is planning to construct a 300 MW wind farm, following a deal sealed with AMEA Power, a renewable energy company based in the United Arab Emirates. The agreements were signed in the presence of Ethiopia’s Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide, and senior officials from both countries, with the Minister highlighting the project’s alignment with Ethiopia’s national energy policy and its commitment to green energy. Among the signed agreements were an implementation agreement and a 25-year power purchase agreement, under which the power generated by the wind farm will be sold to Ethiopian Electric Power.
The project, named Aysha-1 Wind Project, is about approximately $620 million. AMEA Power will develop, invest in, construct, own, and operate the wind farm through a subsidiary. The wind farm is expected to generate 1400 GWh of clean energy per year, powering more than 4 million households and reducing carbon emissions by more than 690000 tons per year.
