Faulty transformer causes power outage

Scotland, Ross-shire: Hundreds of people woke up without electricity after a faulty transformer knocked out the power in Ross-shire at 6:23 a.m. on 1 April 2020.

Some homes in the Marybank, Muir of Ord, Fairburn, Fern and Muirton Mains areas were affected by the fault on Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks’ (SSEN) high-voltage network.

Most of those affected had their power restored by 9:30 a.m., although 19 properties were still without electricity at the time of writing.

SSEN said engineers hoped to have their power restored by 2 p.m. but were sending “generators on their way to support these customers” in the interim.

An SSEN spokesman added: “We’d like to sincerely apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by the faults in the affected area today, and thank them for their patience as our engineers work to safely restore power as quickly as possible.”
