Hungary, Tápiószele: Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines Ltd. has announced the production of a 750 kV transformer, its first with 800 kV insulation level. Márk Matola, Project Engineer and Team Leader at Ganz, commented: “The production of the 750 kV transformer is a huge milestone in the life of the reorganized Ganz, as it is our first transformer with 800 kV insulation level.”

The company explained that the first 750 kV insulated transformer was delivered in 1978 to Albertirsa, the Hungarian endpoint of the Soviet-Hungarian interconnection established at that time. This was a pioneering achievement for the company and Hungary in the 20th century, as it was the 4th in the world to install transformers at this voltage level.

In 2019, MAVIR Hungarian Transmission Operator Co. relocated the substation to Szabolcsbáka, where Ganz is now delivering the new transformer. The unit successfully passed the FAT tests in the first week of August. During the tests, Ganz applied unique test voltages, e.g., the peak voltage of the impulse was 2310 kV.

The single-phase transformer has a nominal power of 366.7 MVA and a voltage of 750 kV. It is 11.7 m tall, 11.3 m wide, and 11.6 m long, weighing at 240 tons. The commissioning of the unit is planned for November.
