Sweden, Piteå: Hitachi Energy is expanding its transformers components factory in Piteå by investing in new machinery and increasing the number of employees by 50%. This investment addresses the growing demand for transmission equipment worldwide, driven by the energy transition.

“We see increased demand for our world-leading technology that accelerates the transition to clean energy around the world, and we are very pleased that we can invest and expand our production in Piteå,” Tobias Hansson, Country Managing Director, Hitachi Energy Sweden, said.

The factory produces composite insulators used in transformers, circuit breakers, and power electronics, components in systems that contribute to and enable the transfer of large amounts of energy between countries and over long distances. The expansion will enable the increase in the amount of available equipment. It will also help improve operations and facilitate planning and material handling in the production flow. Three separate production lines will be created: small insulators, large insulators, and cylinders for tap changers.

The company acquired the existing property in December 2024. The expanded factory is scheduled for commissioning in the fall of 2026. Today, approximately 200 people work there, and with the investment, the workforce is expected to grow to approximately 300 employees by 2030.
